Mental Health Awareness Panel – March 24

To kick off Green Week, the first annual mental health awareness week at Hiram College, Active Minds will host a panel on suicide prevention from 4-6 p.m. on March 24, 2014, in the Alumni Heritage Room.

Hiram’s Active Minds club is a new student organization that is part of the national nonprofit of the same name, which empowers students to speak openly about mental health in order to educate others and encourage help-seeking. The club has planned a full week of programming on mental health awareness.

Monday’s panel will include:

  • Dr. Kevin Feisthamel, director of counseling, health and disability at Hiram’s Julia Church Health Center
  • Samantha Hughes ’15, biology major and vice president of Active Minds
  • Dr. Joel Mowrey, executive director of the Portage County Mental Health and Recovery Board
  • Paul Dages, emergency services coordinator, Townhall II crisis line
  • Amy Lukes, project coordinator, Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health / NEOMED

The discussion will center mainly on suicide prevention, but panelists can answer questions on any mental health-related topic.
