Hiram College’s Habitat for Humanity student group will hold its annual auction fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 20, to raise money for the annual alternative spring break trip. The fundraiser will coincide with the weekly Bread and Soup meal in Dix Dining Hall.
This year, the eleven students and two faculty/staff members will stay close to home for the trip (March 10-14), and join the Nehemiah Mission in Cleveland, building, remodeling and furnishing homes of the fiscally and physically challenged.
The Nehemiah Mission was founded in 2003 to improve living environments and plant seeds of hope in Cleveland by creating small teams of workers to complete different jobs throughout the greater area. Since then, the mission has hosted more than 10,000 volunteers and completed more than 1,000 projects. Students will stay in the mission’s dormitory facilities for the week.
“We are extremely excited to be able to work alongside people from our own area and provide help to those close to us,” said Hannah Brown, nursing major and president of Hiram’s Habitat group. “Each year, no matter where we are, the experiences gain a special place in our hearts and become a part of our lives.”
The auction and meal is free to students with a student ID and $6 for non-students. Auction items will include gift cards, food, baskets, baked goods and more. If you would like to donate an item for auction, please email email@example.com.
