New Technologies in Contemporary Ceramics – Jan. 23

Sculptor Jason Green, whose work will be on display in the Gelbke Art Gallery this winter, will present the convocation: “New Technologies in Contemporary Ceramics,” at noon on Jan. 23 in the Gelbke Fine Arts Center Auditorium.

The convocation will focus on the development of Green’s work and highlight the ways that digital technologies have been incorporated into his studio practice. He will also show examples of how contemporary ceramics is changing with the introduction of rapid prototyping technologies in artists’ studios.

His exhibition in the Gelbke Art Gallery will open the next day, Jan. 24, and run through Feb. 28.

Green is an adjunct professor teaching in the Foundations and Ceramics programs at Alfred University in western New York. His work with architectural ceramics began in graduate school and continued at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Maine where he began making sculptural tile using the historic molds he found there. His investigation of art, architecture and ceramics has continued to expand during his international travels to locations in China, Mexico, Italy and France.

The Gelbke Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (or by appointment), but will be closed for the Jan. 20 Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Learn more about Green’s exhibit.
