Home Energy Efficiency Workshop – Nov. 16

Students in the “Solving Contemporary Problems” 12-Week course will present a free workshop on home energy efficiency, Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Kennedy Center’s Dix Room. The workshop is open to the public.

Debbie Kasper, assistant professor of environmental studies and the course’s instructor, said the workshop will focus both on large-scale investments for those starting from scratch and small improvements home-owners can make to see a difference in their current home. With the winter season approaching, she said attendees can expect to learn information about winterization they can use in coming months.

Discussion topics include the following:

  • Why it’s important to reduce energy use,
  • Assessing your home’s current energy status,
  • Measuring the electricity usage of your appliance and gadgets,
  • Options for conserving energy, making your home more energy efficient and saving money.

Kasper said her students have created a household energy assessment tool, which attendees can take home to assess energy use in their own home.
