Biomimicry: An Ancient Tool and Emerging Discipline – Sept. 24

The Center for the Study of Nature and Society will present the lecture “Biomimicry: An Ancient Tool and Emerging Discipline,” at noon on Sept. 24, 2013, in the Kennedy Center Ballroom.

Peter H. Niewiarowski, professor of biology and principle investigator at the University of Akron’s Biomimicry Research and Innovation Center, will give the talk.

Biomimicry is the imitation of the models, systems and elements of nature for the purpose of solving complex human problems. Niewiarowski will discuss biomimicry as sustainable design inspired by nature, at the intersection of biology, design and business. Northeast Ohio is at the forefront of this emerging discipline, as the University of Akron and Cleveland Institute of Art have collaborated to train the first Ph.D.’s in this field.
