Three members of the Hiram College softball team have been named to the 2013 All-North Coast Athletic Conference Teams for their individual efforts this season. Junior Jessica Bolanz (Randolph/Waterloo) and junior Sarah Loyer (Barrie, Ontario/St. Joseph’s) garnered second-team honors and sophomore Miranda Wright (Richfield/Revere) was a honorable mention selection. Bolanz earns her first all-conference award after leading the team in nearly all major statistical categories, including breaking her own single-season homerun record with nine and also became the program’s all-time leader in homeruns with 22. She also led the team in batting average (.429), hits (45), triples (two), doubles (14), runs (26) and runs batted in (37). In addition, Bolanz was second on the team in walks with 16. Defensively, Bolanz had a .990 fielding percentage with 172 putouts, 18 assists and committed just two errors as the team’s primary catcher.
Loyer earned All-NCAC honors for the second time in her career. She was a honorable mention selection last season. This past spring, Loyer played in 24 games and started 20. She ended the season third on the team in batting average at .329 (23-of-70) and was fifth in runs scored with 17. In addition, Loyer hit five doubles, had three RBI and was a perfect three-for-three in stolen bases. As an outfielder, she posted a .958 fielding percentage with 22 putouts, one assist and committed just one error.
Wright also earns her second all-conference award and was a second-team pick as a freshman. As a sophomore, Wright started all 36 games and finished second on the team in batting average at .333 (34-of-102), runs scored with 23 and was tied for second in doubles with nine. In addition, she finished third in both homeruns (three) and RBI (17). Defensively, Wright had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage recording 39 putouts and three assists as an outfielder. She also saw playing time as a pitcher in one inning allowing no hits or runs and had one strikeout.
