Julie Thompson ’13 had the chance to talk one-on-one with U.S. Senators and Representatives about her research, as part of the Council on Undergraduate Research’s Posters on the Hill Symposium, April 23-24, 2013.

For her senior capstone, Thompson explored the 1935 Garrettsville train heist and how it paved way for modern FBI techniques. Titled “The Thief and the Justice: The ‘Last Great Train Heist in American History’ and Its Influence on the Rise of J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI,” she was one of 60 students selected to participate, out of more than 800 applicants.

Thompson, a history major, along with professor of history Vivien Sandlund, traveled to Washington, D.C. for the conference. She met U.S. Reps. Tim Ryan (Ohio’s 13th District) and David Joyce (Ohio’s 14th District), as well as Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman.
