Hiram College junior softball player Jessica Bolanz (Randolph/Waterloo) has been named this weeks North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Bolanz helped lead the Terriers to a 4-2 record this past week, including a perfect 4-0 record against NCAC opponents with doubleheader victories against Ohio Wesleyan University and Oberlin College. For the season, Hiram has a 12-20 overall record and 6-6 in the NCAC.
Individually, Bolanz started all six games and batted .588 at the plate (10-of-17) with four homeruns, a double, scored seven runs and had 10 runs batted in. One of her homeruns came in the doubleheader against Oberlin which gave her nine for the season breaking her own single-season record of eight homeruns which she set during the 2011 season. In addition, Bolanz had two walks and had a .632 on base percentage to go along with a 1.353 slugging percentage. Defensively, she had a .960 fielding percentage with 21 putouts, three assists and just one error.
Overall for the season, Bolanz has started all 32 games and leads the team in all statistical categories. She is batting a team-best .473 (44-of-93) with nine homers, two triples, 14 doubles, 24 runs scored, RBI (37) and walks (16). Defensively, Bolanz has a .989 fielding percentage as the team’s starting catcher with 157 putouts, 17 assists and just two errors.
Hiram is scheduled to travel to Meadville, Pa. for a NCAC doubleheader against Allegheny College on Wednesday, Apr. 24. The first game is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
