The first two days in Florence have been a whirlwind!

duomo-smYesterday I woke up at 6:00 a.m. to view the sunrise at and around the Duomo. It was well worth the early wake-up! The rest of the city was quite literally still asleep, and I feel lucky to have seen the Duomo without the crowds. After meandering down a couple of side streets, I returned to the hotel and prepared for the busy day ahead!

Our first day in Florence started at the Baptistery, where we were able to sketch for about 45 minutes. Then we began our walking tour of the city. Each student led the group to the next site on our list. We are now so familiar with the city! Some of the highlights include The Santa Maria Novella and The Church of San Lorenzo. We also saw a gypsy steal a piece of pizza from someone right off his table!

After our walking tour was over we headed out to do some shopping outside the Mercato Centrale. A few of us purchased scarves and cute cross-body purses to keep our money safe from pick-pocketers.

Today I woke up early again and took a long walk with Dawn to Piazzale Michelangelo. The view of the city was amazing from the high vantage point!  The early morning sun only made it more spectacular!

Today we visited Santa Croce and the Pazzi Chapel, then met up at our new studio space at SACI, an art school located in Florence just minutes from our hotel. We worked for about three hours and are ready for some dinner, so I will write more later in the week!

Ciao for now!
