Safford leads Arts Jobs Discussion

Professor of Art Lisa Safford served as moderator at an employer/faculty roundtable sponsored by the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education (NOCHE). The discussion was held on March 6, at the Cleveland Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Cleveland.

The event focused on internships and entry-level job opportunities for liberal arts college students and graduates, and on the long-term needs of arts organizations in the future, including in development, marketing and event management.

“We had a wide-ranging discussion,” Safford said. “We tried to impress on those in the audience that arts organizations are looking for help from students and graduates who have done their homework on the specific organizations to which they apply, who write well and who have a track record of community service outside of the college environment.”

The guest speaker at the event was James Levin, founder of Ingenuity Fest, the innovative festival that celebrates the connections between arts and technology in Cleveland. Levin is also former director of the College of Wooster’s Center for Entrepreneurship.

Participants in the roundtable included representatives of a wide array of arts organizations from throughout Northeast Ohio.
