New this academic year, students can “drop in” for tutoring and group study four evenings a week at the Academic Resource Center at Hinsdale (the ARCH).
Nancy Sauline, assistant director of academic development, said this restructuring of tutoring resources is in response to students’ request for a drop-in tutoring center. The “center” will be various classrooms and common areas on either side of the first floor of Hinsdale, and hours will generally be 8-10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with extended hours during midterms and finals.
Peer tutors will lead tutoring and group study in the following popular subjects starting Week 2 (Sept. 2) of the fall semester:
These subjects are subject to change, and more subjects may be added as needed.
In addition to peer tutoring and group study, Sauline said she will be leading academic success skills workshops and individual academic coaching during ARCH hours throughout the semester. The Writing Center will also offer writing support several nights a week.
“Although I am starting small, I have high hopes that it will be received well,” Sauline said. “I am very excited about the potential for this newly re-envisioned space, and I hope it will make more students comfortable with the idea of tutoring.”
The ARCH tutoring schedule will be updated from time to time on the Student Academic Services website. It will also be sent out weekly via campus email. Students who need a tutor in a subject not listed above should contact email@example.com or stop by the Career and Academic Development offices in Hinsdale Hall.
* Computer Science tutoring will be offered in Colton 106, Sunday through Thursday (8-10 p.m.).
** Biology 131 tutoring will be held in Gerstacker 207 (dates and times TBA).
